Prescriptions / Dispensing
Like any pharmacist we are able to dispense prescriptions for you – and we are here to help the customer as much as possible. We arrange a pick-up service from the local GP, if you are unable to pick up your prescription yourself. Not only that but we can also deliver your items to you, along with any other products you may require from the shop.
We dispense both NHS prescriptions and private prescriptions and collect on a twice daily basis from the local surgery.
Please contact us for a quote if you have a private prescription as we can be very competitive on prices!
All of our prescriptions are dispensed from and recorded on our secure computer patient medication record. The patient medical record also known as PMR allows our dispensing team and pharmacists to see your medication history and therefore check any interactions between old and new medication.
If you are waiting for a prescription to be dispensed, you’ll be pleased to know that unlike bigger pharmacies, your waiting time will be a lot less. For instance our average time to dispense an NHS prescription that has 1 or 2 items is within 5 minutes!
Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
EPS enables prescribers – such as GPs and practice nurses – to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy) of the patient’s choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff.
Since May 2013 The Painswick Surgery and we here at The Painswick Pharmacy have been dispensing electronic prescriptions. We were one of the first in Gloucestershire to be able to do this, and we and most importantly, patients have found this very beneficial and efficient.
If you live in an area where your surgery is EPS enabled, and you’d like us to receive your electronic prescription from them, then please either inform your surgery you’d like to ‘nominate’ us or alternatively contact us and we can do this for you.
We also provide Repeat Dispensing. This allows you to collect repeat prescriptions from us without having to order the prescription from the surgery each time. Please speak to one of the dispensing team if you are interested in this service.
Medication Compliance Aids
Medication compliance aids are devices designed to help patients take their medication. This can be helpful for patients on multiple medications and/or who have difficulty remembering to take them correctly. If you think this can be beneficial to you or a family member, please speak to one of our dispensing team.
We provide a full dispensing service to nursing and residential homes. Please speak to the pharmacist if you would like to discuss provision of this service.
Did you know?
We can send you a text message once your prescription has been completed! If you would like us to do this each time you have a prescription, please contact us.
We are also happy to arrange your repeat prescriptions, and are here for any other medical advice, if you don’t want to bother the doctor. Please call us or pop in if there is anything we can do to help.
In an emergency, the doctor may mark your prescription as urgent and can make arrangements to get it dispensed. In exceptional circumstances the local police may be able to help.
